I was wondering if there is an easy substitute for KNO3. Would match powder work?

No it wouldn’t. It’s completly differant. KnO3 supplies the oxygen, and oxygen doesnt burn on its own. Matches however, do. It wont. But Sodium chlorate, its a health, salt alternitive.

stump remover is like 99% kno3. Some have less, to prevent pyros like us from using it, but most are > 97% pure

NO NO NO NO NO. Potassium chloride is the healthy version, and its not oxidising. Whilst sodium chlorate is oxidising, its NOT sold as a salt alternative.

You can try using Ammonium Nitrate.

Ammonium Nitrate is the powder found in instant ice packs.

potassium permanganate is a good option if you are an aussie. hell i got it from my local pharmacy easily and im an aussie. You may need an excuse for why you need it though, just say you wanted to make crystals because you were inspired to make them from school. this stuff can be better then kno3 in some cases, but it stains a very bad purple color to anything when you ad water. A good powder to start with is 1 part potassium permanganate to two parts sulfur (bunnings and mitre 10). use it very soon after making it though, as it has the tendency to loose allot of its burn speed after a day or so.

Fuck using AN as an oxidizer for flash powder. Make some APAN, ANFO, ANAL(Ammonium Nitrate/Aluminum), or something similar.

Sodium free salt is potassium chloride, not potassium chlorate. Not to mention KClO3 and S are incompatible due to spontaneous combustion and sensitivity issues so black powder is out of the question.

Matches contain potassium chlorate as the oxidiser (as well as other shit). You can extract the KClO3 from the match heads and make a sort of black powder substitute called H3 (KClO3 and charcoal) but it’s too much effort for too little. Not to mention H3 can be sensitive.

Filtering calcium carbonate (the coating) is easy. Dissolve the stump remover in hot water then filter the chalk out. Potassium nitrate dissolves but calcium carbonate doesn’t.

They don’t sell stump remover in Australia.

You can’t substitute NH4NO3 for KNO3. It won’t work properly. Ammonium nitrate is extremely hygroscopic. Leave some on a bench, come back in a few hours on a humid day and it’ll be a puddle of water. There is a composition which can work in the right climate and conditions called ammonpulver. Some weirdo country tried using it as a propellant in one of the wars. It contains NH4NO3 and charcoal. Not worth it at all. Ammonium nitrate is no use unless you’re making high explosives, which no one here is.

There is a way to get it out of sparklers on bombshock.com

The sparklers in Australia don’t contain and potassium nitrate - they contain barium nitrate.

You might be serious but you don’t know what you’re talking about. Urine contains mostly urea. If you nitrate the urea to make urea nitrate it’s a little bit closer, but still way off, can’t use it for anything except nitro urea (a high explosive, no good for anyone here).

Wrong, bad, no. You fail. Yes, you can get it easily, but in no way is it a good or better substitute for potassium nitrate. This is because KMnO4 is incompatible with sulfur and charcoal. Over time the KMnO4 can react with the sulfur and cause spontaneous combustion. Same with charcoal. Accidental ignition, shit like that. Sure, it’s a great oxidiser, but not if you like safety. Oh wait, I forgot you’re hardcore. Nevermind, go for it noob.

Now to answer your question...It is very easy to get potassium nitrate in Australia. I know of and have used three completely different sources. I’m not going to tell you where they are or you’ll do something stupid like emo your emo you stupid emo.

Loooooool...Thank you and good night. Hope I pointed out how unreliable idiots are. Sweet dreams.
