Introduction
This is the third egg of my original idea of a simple full automatic BB gun with a few differences
it can shoot at over twice the speed as my other two types when velocity is at its max
it is a pistol shape
makes a nice loud bang with recoil
Note that metal and copper BBs will work fine. Im actually passed airsoft, but haven’t had good access to metal BBs. But have tested metal ones in my other BBMG (BB machine gun) so this egg will be using plastic ones.
Things you need:
A CO2 bike tire refill system with a trigger. These are purchased from bike stores, and cost about 50 dollars.
Some CO2 canisters from supermarkets like IGA. These will not fit in these bike tire refill guns, so you will need to modify the tire refill gun a bit (I will explain how)
pvc pipe that fits around the smaller sized CO2 canister perfectly
Two tubes. Metal tubing that fits around the type of BB you’re using with around half a mm of clearance and the next size up. All hobby stores sell these sized tubes
Slingshot type tubing. If you can’t find any, go to an archery shop. They sell long rubber tube ropes for archery training. Also slingshot tubing works fine.
A strong stick that’s the size of the BB. This is the muzzle loader. I just use a skinny carbon arrow
lots of basic clear tape (has to be the normal clear tape and not wide) and also electrical tape for looks
BBs of any kind. Metal ones will definitely work. Just make sure they fit the thinner tube nicely but role through well.
part1: The tube magazine
On the thicker tube, cut about 15 cm off, and make it round again by using scissors then cut a piece of rubber tubing about 1 inch long. And wrap it around the thick tube
Now cut out the thinner metal tube. You can have it as long as you want depending on how long you want the barrel. Then wrap the other side of the rubber tubing around the thinner metal tube. And have about half a cm of loose rubber tubing in between both metal tubes.
Now wrap lots of the clear tape around the rubber tubing and metal pipes and make sure it is really tightly on. Then in the centre of the rubber tubing where it is loose, wrap the tape around it about 7 times. The more tighter you have it, the more powerful your gun will be
Wrap the hole newly made barrel/mag with electrical tape
Get your bike tire refill gun and take all the shit out of the nozzle thing. It should look like this…
Get the thicker end of the mag/barrel thing, and wrap tape around the end of it until it is as wide as the inside diameter of the CO2 bike tire refill gun muzzle. Push it in.
Now tape it up with clear tape TIGHTLY. This is really important or otherwise the gun will have air leaks. And not shoot
Tape the beast up with electrical tape to make it a nice, black color
Part 2: Converting the CO2 bike tire refill gun to run on cheaper canisters.
Because bike store CO2 canisters are so expensive (6 dollars each), I have converted mine to use the cheaper canisters you get for a pack of 10 from 5 to 8 dollars. Note that the soda chargers work like shit. But cream chargers work a lot better for some reason.
cut a piece of PVC pipe to be about as long as the inside of the handle
Because these cheaper CO2 canisters are shorter, gather up some stuff like marbles, 5 cent coins, and drop them to the bottom of the handle. Then to test to see if the CO2 canister reaches the nail, and screw the handle onto the valve.
Part 3: loading the gun
1. Drop some BBs down the barrel
Push them down with the strong thin stick or arrow. You should hear them rattling around in the reservoir. It can be easier to push the BBs in singly
Pull the trigger slowly to shoot. And the gun will let them all out one by one. But in rapid fire speed
Part 4: making it more powerful
Juicing the power up is very simple. But will tend to make air leaks, screw your gun up, and make it almost impossible to load BBs if you go overboard. Simply wrap more STRETCHY clear plastic tape around where the rubber is. And then reinforce it with electrical tape. You may have to wrap more tape around where the barrel connects to the CO2 spray gun, to prevent air leaks.
This is really, the complete BB gun. It is basically a bit of PVC pipe left over from the handle around the tube. And both ends of the tube have more tape around it. So the tube fits on perfectly. Then more tape around it to make it stronger. The stick there is from one of my broken arrows that I cut to a curtain length, and I glued and taped to the handle and its mainly just there for looks.
How it works
I apologize if this part of the egg sounds a bit nerdy, but really its just common sense.
The gun works by having a wide tube behind the rubber tubing, and that will cause the air to push the BBs out slower then if it were a perfect fit. And the BB closest to the rubber tubing will get stuck in the rubber, and cause the chamber to build up pressure, Causing a small explosion from the weakest seal, which will be the BB inside the rubber tubing. And then all that pressure will force the BB out through the rubber tubing. And the same process repeats itself super fast for another shot, and repeats itself until there are no more BBs left. In a way it works similar to a strobe light how they build up energy until it reaches a curtain voltage, then lets out the light and repeats itself heaps of times
Safety
As you realized when you watch the video, this gun is very dangerous for the idiot user. Especially when shooting metal BBs. Never attempt to shoot anyone unless you are in strict conditions like with paintball. Be sure to wear skirmish masks for obvious reasons. Be nice, and never shoot pets even if they don’t belong to you. Kill a stupid bird if you want perhaps?
Also for anyone who lives in Australia or Singapore, never shoot this in public places (unless you know you can get away with it) the legal fps velocity in Australia is anything under 180 fps. And this gun would probably triple that speed when the power is up all the way
May 12, 2007 10:28 am - I like this idea,
and i would definitely try it out,
except i can be arsed to hand out $50 in sterling to someone.
it’s too much money
May 12, 2007 7:52 pm - also something i might add, you can change the rate of fire the gun does simply by getting a thicker mag tube where the BBs are held. the vid was showing it going a bit too fast
May 21, 2007 2:54 am - probally. but ive seen videos of airsoft guns firing. haven’t been too impressive, plus you cant shoot metal BBs out of them too well without completely messing it up. also, Australia requires a proper hand gun license just for a spring airsoft gun.
May 21, 2007 3:36 am - Hey OH SHIT!!.. Wow dude.. very Nice.. Looks Pro!. Ima get Some of The Material Tommorow.. What is The Distance The BB’s Can Go?.. Estimate, More than 30 Meters?.. but 5 fo You Mate,. Please Mak More of These.
Sep 22, 2007 7:31 am - You could, but it destroys the hole point. it would be the BB gun version of a paintball gun. The new and improved BB gun I made can hold 25 steel 3 mm BBs. which is all I really need
