How many times have you accidentally made a fuse too short so when you run away you miss half of the action?
Well. Those days are over. All you need for a elecrical ignition system is:
1. Desired length of wire (from some old headphones or whatever you have)
2. 12V battery
3. Switch (like the second last one at the bottom)
4. Soldering Iron and Solder
Step 1
Get your wire, switch and soldering gear and solder the switch and wires so it will be able to have a current running through it later on.
Step 2
Hook the wire up to the battery so it will have a current running through it when you turn on the switch.
Step 3
Put the other end into the powder and flick the switch. BOOM!
I hope this helps people out a bit
If it doesnt work you could always try getting some alligator clips and steel wool. Hook that up to the wire instead so when you flick the switch it lights the steel wool.
Mar 23, 2007 11:10 pm - Have you tried this? The wire/switch system would be very unreliable. It needs an igniter, like from a model rocket. The steel wool idea’s better, but I think it’d still be unreliable. With a switched ignition, you want it to ignite as soon as you flick the switch. The steel wool would take an undetermined amount of time to ignite the charge/ firework etc...
Try your method, and post your results...

You did a different idea altogether, and didn’t even take your own pcitures, which makes me doubt you even did the egg.
BTW: 3*’s for the egg, good effort
Mar 24, 2007 5:41 am - Why not just use a longer fuse? Fuse can save your life, dont substitute it!
Besides, this is an okay idea, but has been improved a LOT! Use some small 28 gauge galvanized steel wire, and an RC battery. Those things are powerful, and small. If you want, wrap the wire around a match head, as it will provide FLAME not just heat.
Mar 25, 2007 3:02 pm - What you want is a piece of Nickel Chromium (Nichrome) wire. It gets red hot when current is applied to it. It is used to ignite model rocket engines. Very reliable.
