I didn’t see an egg on this so I figured I’d throw this one out there.
Intro
This is a very basic prank to pull off and works like a charm. All it involves is adding a string of code on HTML that will redirect a webpage to another site. Due to it’s nature, it has plenty of range. It can simply be a friendly little gag to a very cruel joke depending on whatever level of prank you want to pull or if you have revenge on your mind.
Basic Code
You can’t copy paste this and I apologize, but loading it as a gif was the only way to get the code to show properly.
Explanation
I’ll go ahead and break down a few of the basics of the code, in order.
The 0 serves as the number of seconds the code will wait until the code refreshes. This was mostly designed for non-pranking purposes such as splash pages or websites that moved. You can change the 0 to a higher number if you wish, but the more you add to it, the more you run the risk of someone backing out of the page before it loads.
Quote: URL=http://www.rotteneggs.com"
This is where you enter the site you wish the code to redirect the person to. This is where all the fun is, as you can redirect your victim(s) to any website or picture. Also, this is where you decide your level of prank. There’s lots of pictures or pages your victim probably won’t want to visit, let alone you.
Quote:
Text... If You Want It
Finally, the body is where you can type any text you wish to add to lure the person into reading something. Obviously, if your content="0; they’re not going to be reading anything. The whole BODY string can be removed from the code and it will work, but I let it there in case anyone wanted to set a content delay. I have used this option and as long as you don’t go over 10 seconds or so, just write out a paragraph or two.
Where Do I Put The Code?
Any HTML based site or HTML based message board that you can trick your victim into going to. HTML message boards, although they’ve become fairly obsolete, are a great place to slap the code up if you want the frequenters to get a good look at a pr0n site or whatever your heart desires.
Setbacks
There are a few setbacks to this prank. Namely, there is a browser or two out that will not auto-load this code. I believe Opera is one that will not. However, I can safely say that both IE and Firefox on their default settings will load the code.
Also, according to some research I did before posting this egg, some search engines are set to pull sites off their listing that refresh too quickly (usually when their 10 seconds or less). This is set up to stop coders from slapping in a ton of keywords only to redirect to porn, etc.
Fin.
I hope someone finds some use from this. The code is obviously out there already, so it will be on other sites. I did do a bit of research, but this egg is far from C/P’ed. Happy HTMLing. |
