The Match Firecracker
In this egg I will attempt to guide you through the fairly easy process of makig a match head firecracker.
It is probably the best form of firecracker, even if not the most effective, because of the simple and easy to find ingridients.
Ingridients 1.) matches (i nicked a fair few from the complementary bowl at a hotel)
2.) knife/sharp edge
3.) paper
*4.) it isn’t shown in the picture, but some pva/elmers glue is useful. if not, use tape.
Instuctions
Step 1.) Take a match and scrape of the powder at the head (try to avoid collecting wood)
Step 2.) Once you have you collected powder, you will notice it is flaky
Take a penny of annythign at all really, and crush it into a finer powder.
If you intend to make a rocket then it doesnt need to be very fine,
but for our needs, the finer, the better.
Yours should look like this
** This would be a good time to stock up on some, i keep it in the original box **
Step 3.) Roll up a strip of paper and glue/tape it together.
Your size will depend on the power of firecracker
Step 4.) scrunch up a piece of paper into a ball and dip it in glue.
Then jam it in the end of the tube and glue over again.
If your plug isn’t strong enough then it will simply pop out in the explosion
Step 5.) Make a funnel and pour the powder into the tube
Leave a small space for the end plug
Step 6.) Repeat step 4, but for other end
You will be left with this
Step 7.) gouge a hole about halfway down the tube with a knife
Step 8.) Roll up a thin tube of paper and glue it to keep its shape, then put it in opening
Step 9.) Make a smaller funnel and pour in more powder (this will be the fuse)
As you can see, I made a bit of a pigs ear of this bit.
Step 10.) *optional* Design your finished firecracker.
Jan 28, 2007 6:51 am - Thanks, yeh i was looking through the other guides, but they were all really short without pictures.
So i thought i should do one, but with a more detailed guide.
Jan 28, 2007 7:21 am - I’m english, lol.
And normally they are maroon but these are just different.
I’m fairly sure they wouldn’t have any different properties.
I just took loads from the bowl at a hotel
Haha!
Jan 28, 2007 11:56 am - I thought that as well,
But I was curious,
so I tried to make one.
I took pictures as I did it, and when it worked.
I was quite surprised, Turns out, when powdered up it burns really fast.
As a test i just sort of made a paper package with some inside and lit the whole thing with a lighter and the thing blew up in my face.
And they’re so easy to make!!
I swear, my road of match powder has only just begun!! :P
