Variety - GOOD MORNING: Unlucky in love, lucky at ... Ben Affleck who has been concentrating on his poker game, hit it big Sunday night at the Commerce Casino winning the No Limit Hold-Em event in the California State Poker Championship. This won him more than $350,000 and a seat at the season three World Poker Tour Championship. Affleck beat out 90 other players including many poker pros and fellow actor Tobey "Spider-man" Maguire, who was knocked out the first day of the three-day tourney. But Tobey stayed around to watch Ben win ... Affleck will be among the celebs participating at the Disney Concert Hall fundraiser for John Kerry and the Demo National Committee. It is a sellout ... Leonardo DiCaprio will team with Robert De Niro at the event -- to introduce Barbra Streisand ... Leo, who attended the L.A. and N.Y preems of Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11," is hot to make more appearances for the pic -- and John Kerry -- before heading out on his own agenda, p.a.s' for "The Aviator," which doesn't bow until well after the election, Dec. 17 ... Leo was also on hand Saturday afternoon at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica for HBO's All Star Family Sports Jam benefiting Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. HBO's Chris Albrecht, leadership chair for the New Hospital at Children's Hospital L.A. campaign, was event chair with Mary Hart co-chairing/ Robert Wuhl m.c'd. and Billy Crystal was live auctioneer. It was a perfect teaming of showbiz and sports stars. Crystal, of course, represented baseball, having exec produced and directed HBO's "61*," the story of the Roger Maris-Mickey Mantle home run race. The event raised more than half a million-$ for the new 280-bed expansion of the Children's Hospital. HBO is readying a Sept. 14 airing of "Half-Staff," the 2001 World Series revisited and the role baseball played in New York's recovery after 9/11. Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports, said "people were looking for something to take them away from the tragedy if for only a few hours and baseball did it." Greenburg was at the game when President Bush threw out the first pitch, having worked out before the game in the batting cage under (!) Yankee Stadium with Derek Jeter. Jeter had warned the president, "Don't throw it on the ground -- they'll boo you!" At the event, Liza Minnelli sang "New York, New York." A fan of Jeter's on hand was Brielle Saracini whose father was the pilot of United flight 175, the second plane to crash into the World Trade Center.
